The Structure of Acne Skin

The outermost layer is made up of individual flat cells (called squamous cells) that actually are layered, one on top of the other.

Newly produced squamous cells are made deep along the border of the dermis and gradually push the older cells outward.

As this outer layer becomes thicker, the oldest cells eventually die. This new, outermost, layer of dead cells becomes a specific anatomic layer called the stratum corneum.

The drawing show a cross section of your skin. Your skin is made up of three layers, the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue.

The sebaceous glands
The diagram shows a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland. Sebaceous glands are attached to hair follicles and are found mostly on the face, neck, back and chest. It is this gland that produces sebum, an oily material that surrounds each hair follicle. The oil lubricates and protects the skin.

What is acne?
Acne is a complex condition that depends basically on increased sebum production ( when you are going through hormonal imbalances... specially during adolescence or, if a woman, during your period) in conjunction with the accumulation of toxins deposited within your skin by your lymph system that can not otherwise get rid off them due to your intake of too much protein of poor quality.

What is trapping sebum within these sebaceous glands?
It can simply be some of the dead squamous cells from the outer stratum corneum that have fallen down into the areas around the hair follicles plugging the sebaceous glands. Or it may be excess protein toxins you have been eating that remain within your skin attracting to much moisture which the effect of ultimately 'pinching off' (ouch!) your sebaceous glands. This causes a buildup of oil underneath the skin.

Acne bacteria
The plugged follicles are a rich environment for the uncontrolled development of the germs which are normally on the skin surface and cause acne, the most noticeable being: Propionibacterium Acnes, which causes the inflammation and redness around acne lesions.

If the inflammation is right near the surface, you get a pustule; if its deeper, a papule (pimple); deeper still and its a cyst. If the oil breaks though to the surface, the result is a whitehead. If the oil becomes oxidized (that is, acted on by oxygen in the air like to an apple), the oil changes from white to black, and the result is a blackhead. Actually very little sebum infection by acne bacteria can cause the reactions described above.

Acne treatment

BIOSKINCARE contains biological activator of both the elimination of dead and damaged skin cells and the renewal of healthy cells. BIOSKINCARE unclogs pores and penetrates deep within the hair follicles and, once inside, it triggers the formation of new collagen and turns on the synthesis of keratin cells at the bottom of the stratum corneum causing the bulk of it to lift off and separate from the underlying skin. This gives your skin a much smoother look and feel. It also reduces wrinkles on the skin surface.

Antibiotics cause more difficult problems down the road by creating P. acnes populations that can't be treated. The use of long-term rotational antibiotics is outdated and will only exacerbate antibiotic resistance.

Their natural antibiotic action destroys the pathogens present on the surface of the skin and in the skin pores and acts like a barrier between compromised skin surfaces and the environment.

Pathogens such as bacteria and viruses enter the body through breaks in your skin, or when they find a rich environment for their development such as in clogged and broken sebaceuos glands within the hair follicles (acne infections). As they gain access to the blood stream they cause an increased immune system reaction. This activity interrupts the repair and healing process of skin that has been damaged, and interfere the normal lay down of your skin cells. Additionally, we see evidence of erythema (redness) around the affected site, as well as some superficial edema (swelling) and an excited production and lay down of collagen.

The human immune response is a two-pronged attack. Innate immunity identifies infectious agents by their pattern or structure, and mounts a broad, rapid response. Phagocytic cells (such as neutrophils and macrophages) and natural killer cells are released to fight the infection. A second form of immune response, adaptive (or acquired) immunity, takes several days to gear up its more targeted attack. Adaptive immunity recognizes previous contact with a specific microbe and directs its defense against that specific invader with antibodies and T-cells. Because many infections spread quickly, a fully functioning innate response is crucial to the health of an infected individual.

If your intake of excess protein has been going on for a long time your body has been trying hard to get rid off them through your skin. Procedure:
1.- Go to a sauna and get into it for 15 minutes (not more not less), then shower. Then back to the sauna for another 15 minutes.. then shower, and then drink clean pure water. You can do this once or twice a month if you do not get addicted to such pleasures... and the clear results for your skin... specially if you also follow the next step. (If a sauna is not feasible steaming your face a few times a week will help a little. (Boil some water in a pot on the stove, turn off the heat, cover your head and face with a towel and hang your face over the pot. Take your face away from the heat whenever you need to, and when the steam is gone, rinse your face with cold water.)

2.- Shift your diet, and stick strictly to it for two weeks. Eat loads of fresh fruits and fresh salads including tomato, avocado and virgin olive oil, plus fresh Brazil nuts and 50 grams each day of high quality bio-available proteins in the form of raw fish such as sashimi (fresh fish the Japanese way without the rice) or raw tuna fish (fresh not refrigerated or canned). In between meals drink water to help your body flush out toxins. The recommended amount of water you should drink is at least half your bodyweight in ounces of water (a 140lb. individual should drink 70 ounces/day ). After those two weeks try eating a diet high in fiber salads, bran, complex carbohydrates, and lots of water.
