Light Therapy Is a Reasonable Scar Removal Treatment Plan

Traditionally, scar treatment involves the use of a surgical procedure to replace extensive scars with a single scar that will be left after treatment. But recently, laser therapy has become a popular alternative to surgery. It’s easy to understand why this has happened. Laser therapy is much less invasive and requires less down time than surgery.

In recent years light therapy has become a very viable alternative to other acne scarring treatments, offering a solution to traditional scar problems and even facial blemishes. The most common light treatment therapies are blue light and red light. Here’s a closer look at both types of therapy.

Blue Light Therapy

This type of therapy has been around since the early 1980s. In fact, it was initially used to treat seasonal depression disorders. However, it has now been used to help control acne breakouts.

Using blue light therapy for acne, means that the person does not need to take antibiotics. This is good news for acne sufferers because our bodies become resistant to antibiotics after a certain amount of time. As a matter of fact, this type of treatment has shown significant results in treatment of scars and helping eliminate fine lines.

Red Light Therapy

The significance of red light therapy began in the 1960s when doctors in Europe realized that certain single wavelengths could have a therapeutic effect on tissue. But more recently, cancer researchers have noticed that topical creams in conjunction with a single red frequency could actually kill certain types of skin cancer cells. This type of light helped regenerate skin tissue and improve the appearance of the skin.

This type of therapy can also help boost circulation and promote the production of collagen and trigger the healing process.

Light Therapy for Scar Treatment

It was recently noted that instead of treating acne scars, light therapy was much better at promoting scar less healing. This is understandable considering that untreated acne leads to acne scars. If acne is treated with light therapy, the risk of developing acne scars is less.

If you currently have scars then light therapy might be able to treat them. The light helps kill acne bacteria, and stimulates the skin to produce additional collagen. As collagen is produced, scar tissue becomes more even, presenting a smoother appearance.

Light therapy and dermal fillers can be used in conjunction to treat acne scars that are very deep. One of the most common fillers used to treat acne scars is hyaluronic acid. However, consult with your doctor to know which is the best filler for your type of skin and scars.

Possible Side Effects

You shouldn’t worry much about side effects, because they are mostly temporary. Side effects include redness and flaking of the treated area. Be sure to consult with your doctor if the reactions persist.
