Even though men’s skin problems and skin care products don’t get a lot of media attention compared to that of products designed for women, it doesn’t mean that it’s not an important topic because male skin has needs too. Your skin is your biggest organ and the first line of defense against many harmful diseases and it needs to be respected in a worthy manner. Men’s skincare doesn’t have to be a lengthy process with a ton of different products; a simple skin care regime is all that’s needed to keep you looking your best.
Here’s the low down on men’s skincare:
1. It’s important to have a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and water; avoiding the use of drugs, cigarettes or other tobacco products and the excessive use of alcoholic and artificial drinks. What you put in your body directly affects your skin and how it appears to the world.
2. Using sunscreen will protect your skin against dangerous ultra violet rays from sunlight. The sun doesn’t discriminate against male or female when damaging your skin and causing pre-mature aging or worse yet, skin cancer.
3. Even though to some it sounds a little girly, cleansing, moisturizing and exfoliating are very important to your skin’s health. Daily cleansing is necessary to remove the dirt and grime that has accumulated on your skin’s surface during the day. Moisturizing will help your skin stay hydrated and elastic, meaning fewer wrinkles in the future. Including a body scub or exfoliating within your weekly skin care routine will help eliminate dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and younger looking.
4. When shaving, you should always go with the grain, not against it, to avoid razor burn and ingrown hairs. Don’t use alcohol-based products, such as shaving creams or after shave lotions, because they’ll dry out your skin.
5. When choosing men’s skin care products, select products according to your skin type (normal, dry or oily). Replace your synthetic or chemical based products with all natural skincare products to prevent skin irritations or allergic reactions.
If you want great looking skin, following these tips obsessively will ensure you a healthy and handsome appearance.

I am glad that you mentioned the importance of diet because nutrients are important to the health of men’s skin. I just came from the dermatologist with my teenager and there were signs everywhere about sun damage and the importance of sunscreen. With all of the chemicals that are in many personal care products, you are right that natural products with no short term or long term side effects to worry about are better options.
I’d love to know what the % is of men who do use products with alcohol in them. Don’t most aftershave products have alcohol in them?
I am glad to see this post. I have a teenage son that is facing skin issues at this point and will be shaving soon. I really feel that shaving becomes difficult, so finding some products that will help him!
Hi five folks – well thanks for these tips by understanding what you have wrote now I know I do everything against the grain including the shaving – the only part I’m aware of is I do try and eat the right balanced diet and I try and keep out of the sun but living in the UK that’s not so hard to do – and i do have the right surname – LOL
All my best to you and your skin care

I apsolutely agree water is critical. However, one thing many aren’t aware of is the many chemicals in tap water. Depending upon the location, rural or urban, anything from chlorine, to herbicides may be present. And even if one finds a good wource it’s important to remember to use “safe” plastics or glass. Never reuse the bottled water bottles as most bottlers use the #1 recycle code plastic that’s only good for once only delivery to the end consumer.
I appreciate you,

For me, skin care has been an issue all of my adult like. For years I kept thinking that eventually I would grow out of it. That has not happened. For me skin care products are a necessity. I agree with you that you must be careful to purchase products according to skin type. Thanks!
Nowadays, it’s common to find skin care products for men in most cosmetic shops. The market for skin care solutions for men has been slowly but steadily growing. Men of today aren’t ashamed to admit that they do their own skin are rituals as women do. This does not mean that they are leaning towards homosexuality, it just shows that having good skin is important especially when you are in a business that requires interaction with people.
I liked the tip about shaving, I use an alcohol based product and shave against the grain because I felt it was giving me a closer shave, 2 great tips I will try.
I do use moisturizer after shaving but haven’t gone as far as using a cleanser or exfoliating product. Guess I’m not quite a metrosexual just yet…working on it though.
I love a well groomed me. You can tell when a guy takes care of themselves. That is a turn on for me. If a man sports a beard, they should keep it well trimmed and take care of it by shampooing and conditioning it to keep it soft.
Being a mother of 4 boys, 2 teenagers still at home – boys today are certainly not shy in the beauty department. For years now I’ve spent more on their beauty regime, including hair products than what I’ve spent on my own…lol. I’m reasonably fanatical about face cleansing, mositurising, bodywash rather than soap and using exfoliating poofs in the shower daily.
My husband however is of the old school, feeling that exfoliating, mositurising and the like is for ‘girls’ and takes great pleasure out of teasing the boys!
Thank goodness we are raising kids to be more ‘beauty’ aware.
Hello! I just wish to give an enormous thumbs up for the great info you will have here on this post. I will probably be coming back to your weblog for more soon.
