Skin Care in Your 40’s

Most think that washing your face twice a day is the key to clean, youthful skin, but if you’re in your 40’s, you should cut back to just cleansing your face before bed. The reason is because, as you age, your body doesn’t produce as much natural oils because of a change in hormone levels. With excessive washing, you are depriving your skin of it’s natural protection and promoting wrinkles and a well-aged complexion.

Also, stay away from other triggers such as foods, beverages, allergens or fabrics that can cause your skin to cry out for mercy. Be good to your skin, and she’ll be good to you!

Just because it says Natural doesn’t make it All Natural

In today’s society, it’s very trendy to purchase natural skin care products, but what are you getting for your money. Unfortunately, these claims of being natural are not regulated by the FDA. As long as there is one natural ingredient (a substance taken from nature (plant, dirt or sea)) used in the product, the manufacturer can use the term “natural” on there label and marketing strategy. And this one ingredient doesn’t even have to be the most prevalent one. But what about the rest of the ingredients? They can be synthetic and the product can still use the title, natural.

It’s very important to read the entire list of ingredients to make the decision for yourself if the product is indeed all natural. In many cases, you’ll need a magnifying glass and to do some research because you can’t trust all the hype.

Smother Skin Starts with Exfoliating

If you want to replace your dull, rough complexion for a softer, smoother look, exfoliation needs to be on the top of your “to-do” list. As the skin cells are reproduced and the older cells are pushed to the top, they change in shape and texture, thus causing your skin to look older and worn out. Exfoliating removes those older, dead skin cells so the new, vibrant cells can be exposed. Your skin will appear smoother and wrinkles will be reduced, so exfoliate your way to beautiful skin.

Beautiful Complexion Skin Care

Beautiful Complexion Skin CareActively taking care of your skin with a proper skin care regimen that includes cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing or eating a well balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and water are very important to improve the overall appearance of your skin. But having a radiant complexion cannot be achieved by doing just one thing alone. It takes many different avenues done correctly in order to see the type of skin you desire.

One approach some people neglect when discussing the topic of one’s complexion is scheduling exercise on a daily basis. By exercising, oxygen levels are increased and blood circulation is improved for better distribution of nutrients and flushing toxins from the body, promoting a better immune system and organ health, including your skin. When your body is well equipped, it can efficiently and effectively fight off infection and disease.

Reduce Wrinkles

As one gets older, collagen production decreases and skin becomes dryer and looser. Exercise is not only great for improving muscle tone in general but also causes the body to start producing more collagen and elastin. Wrinkles aren’t as defined and skin looks youthful once again. Exercise also lowers stress levels which can improve acne, other skin disorders that have been linked to stress and slow down premature aging.

Exercise is one way to burn the fat. If there’s less fat, there’s also less cellulite dimples to surface. One sure way of reducing cellulite is through cardiovascular exercise to reduce overall body fat. Your legs and buttocks will look slimmer and smoother.

Feel Good About YOURSELF

Exercise will boost your self esteem and confidence. When you feel good about yourself, it shows in your attitude and complexion. You’ll be healthy on the inside and out, and when you’re healthy, you’re beautiful. People who exercise naturally have better color to their skin, normally a rosy pink glow, as compared to a yellow-green or ashen grey cast color for those who don’t.

If you’re looking for skin rejuvenation, first try adding exercise into your routine and see if that doesn’t make the difference you’re looking for before you run out to the pharmacy for the latest cure all cream or the surgeon’s office for a little nip & tuck. A blemish free complexion is not out of your grasp.

It doesn’t have to take a lot, but allotting time each day for exercise can have huge advantages for your health and skin. So what are you waiting for? Take a spin on your bike, a few laps in the pool or briskly walk your neighborhood, and you’ll start to see the benefits not only on your complexion but throughout your whole body.
