The Skin Care Affects of Big City LivingLiving accommodations surrounded by bright lights, a wide range of different ethnicities, car packed streets, brilliant nightlife and the most exciting and talked about element … “the unexpected”, fascinate and thrill the mind. However, there may be something you don’t know about walking down the streets of your favorite metropolis … its damaging your skin!

Transcendent fact!

Big City living, one of the main reasons your skin ages quickly, undeniably … drastically!

According to many scientific investigations the pollution created by the many “garbage” elements floating in the sky or self-consciously caressing our city streets (crud, sewer water, etc) is one of the main reasons you’re thirty and looking like a grandma.

What scientists refer to as “environmental stress” has always been a serious problem but just recently a concern in house-holds across North America and worldwide due to global warming documentaries such as, “The Awful Truth” by Al Gore and the down pour of environmental articles surfing the net. But, have you ever heard or read what negative affects these particles can have on your skin, anywhere or recently. I think not!

To make matters worse a large part of the skin care community has yet to really focus or realize the affects these hazardous elements cloud-surfing through the air have on our skin.  The existing lotions, creams and ointments that attack the symptoms produced by pollution aren’t as effective as one would like.

Further investigations states (Biogerontology journal) human skin is more sensitive to urban pollution then, let’s say, the sun!

Places where individuals are most affected New York, Paris, London, Miami and Los Angeles – could name more, but why, you catch my drift. These highly visited tourist attractions happen to be the living accommodations that most contain crud, industrial pollutants, smoke and auto-emissions. Self-created elements that produce oxides that block epidermal respiration, heavy metal particles, iron and hydrocarbons, making it almost inevitable not to catch or irritate an existing skin disorder.

To be a bit more specific, the particles surrounding have the capabilities of:

  • Damaging the skin’s protective film
  • Producing cell-aging
  • Triggering free radicals

Big City Living, can you say, dangerous!?

Well, when the accumulation rate of molecular modification increases or the skin’s immune protective system weakens due to the pollution surrounding, this produces thin skin, loss of elasticity, age spots and, of course, wrinkles – signs of the inevitable, skin-aging!

Big City Living Treatments to Avoid Skin-Aging

  • Include probiotic supplements
  • To help protect the skin against oxidative stress make sure to take plenty of vegetables, healthy oils, whole grains, fruits and reduction of animal fats (saturated fats)
  • Exercising frequently boosters’ capillary functioning, gathering oxygen to the skin and prying out body toxins, all vital for a healthy skin appearance.
  • Don’t forget to apply sunscreen, preferably SPF 15 before leaving the house.
  • Calcium and Mineral supplements
  • Proper fluid intake is vital for hydrating skin, flushing out toxins from the body (6 to 8 glasses of water per day)  required for anti-aging prevention
  • Natural skin care remedies that contain enzymes and snail secretion

We all know skin-aging is inevitable. No matter how many treatments, surgeries or topical creams you use your skin will age. However, it’s important to point out there are methods that help you avoid or prevent your aging skin from worsening. The treatments and tips above are just that. Use them and remember, protecting yourself from the damaging elements produced by “big city living” is vital in regaining that skin care glow but more importantly, health.

  1. I must admit I’ve never heard of “snail secretion” as a skin treatment. After reading this article all I can say is I’m glad I have nominal contact with city life.

    I appreciate you,
