Severe Acne: Causes and Tips on How to Eliminate it
Acne is usually divided into mild and severe acne. Blackheads, whiteheads and pustules are some of the mild types of acne, these are also the most common type of acne. Although in this article we are going to focus on one of the sever types of acne, cystic acne.
Cystic acne is considered the worst form of acne that exists. Its consequences are more serious than other types of acne. This is caused by an infection in the inner layers of the dermis that stimulates the formation of nodules. Another name for this is acne vulgaris. When the pores get blocked due to the excess of sebum, acne cysts or acne nodules will appear on the skin. Our body fights the infection producing inflammation of the area where the pores have been blocked. The appearance of cystic acne is triggered by a stronger reaction of the immune system in front of a more severe infection.
When the body reacts in this way, the outflow of sebum starts. Sebum in large amounts is harmful since the risk of a larger bacterial attack increases. Moreover, the excess of sebum on the skin helps increase the appearance of large pimples caused by greater inflammations, bacterial and an oil surplus.
Understanding Cystic Acne
Retention keratosis is another factor that can make facial cysts more severe. Retention is caused when dead skin cells are not properly released into the skin surface. Improper disposal of cells leads to the clogging of these follicles. The infection can then spill onto other follicles which increase the inflammation and causes acne cysts to spread.
Hormones can also be a factor in nodulocystic acne. The rise of the sebum outflow can be influenced by hormones such as testosterone and androgen. If the sebum ducts are not clear for the outflow to reach the surface of the skin swiftly, they become clogged and cysts are formed. Acne can be directly related to genetic and lifestyle of the person who suffers from it. Stress behavior can contribute to or even increase acne.
Even though this type of acne is severe there are acne treatment products that can help heal acne cysts. Accutane is medication that many doctors recommend for severe cases. It is designed to decrease the oil glands therefore slowing down oil production. Acne may be cleared with this product however some people who have taken Accutane experienced depression as a side effect. It is recommended that this drug only be taken if all other methods have failed.
There are treatments such as cortisone injections that are normally administered by a dermatologist to cure cystic acne. The injections provide instant relief of the area affected, reducing its redness and inflammation. Consequently, the pimple is reduced and thus becomes less visible. Some of the problems that may occur after receiving the injection are temporary skin discoloration and bleeding.
Cystic acne is very difficult to overcome but it is not impossible. This type of acne requires a special acne skin care treatment since some could worsen the condition. Natural acne products are available that treat cystic acne as well as improve the skin in general.
